Overview

This Sapele bowl reveals a finely drawn current of golden grain flowing through deep bronze and reddish-brown tones. Long, close-set lines cross the interior, bending gently into the walls while broader dark bands give the composition depth. A small dark beauty mark near the center interrupts the flowing pattern, offering an intimate point of interest within the expansive surface.

From the side, the grain takes on a different rhythm. Fine golden detail catches the light along the upper walls, while darker lines sweep across the rounded lower profile. A distinct circular foot lifts the form above its display surface, giving the broad opening a sense of lightness. At 13 inches across and 4 inches high, the piece balances generous visual reach with a composed, low silhouette.

Created by Ben Balzer, this one-of-a-kind sculptural artwork invites a collector to enjoy both its intricate surface and its clean outline. Its individual character comes from the interplay of fine luminous grain, deeper flowing bands, and the quiet central beauty mark.

Why This Piece Is Exceptional

Fine golden current — closely spaced grain lines carry the eye across the interior and into the curved walls.
Deep bronze palette — reddish-brown warmth and darker bands give the surface layered visual depth.
Central beauty mark — a small dark accent adds an individual focal point within the flowing grain.
Expressive side view — golden detail above and sweeping darker lines below create a second composition along the exterior.
Elevated sculptural profile — a defined circular foot supports the broad, gently opening form.
One-of-a-kind fine art — this particular arrangement of grain, color, and natural character belongs to this Sapele bowl alone.

Collector Notes

The finely patterned interior and lifted profile reward a setting with room for more than one viewpoint:

A low console that reveals the interior grain.
A sideboard with open space around the circular foot and sweeping walls.
A gallery display pairing rich wood with pale stone or a neutral backdrop.
A curated shelf arranged to show the exterior's fine golden detail.
A personal collection celebrating the natural individuality of wooden sculpture.

Gentle directional light can emphasize the fine golden lines against the darker wood. An uncluttered setting allows both the broad interior and the elevated outline to hold attention, revealing different details as the viewer moves around the piece.

Customer Impressions

For a collector drawn to intricate grain rather than overt ornament, this Sapele bowl offers a rewarding balance of richness and restraint. The broad form makes an immediate impression, while its closely drawn lines and central beauty mark invite a slower, more personal appreciation.

Bought it as a Christmas gift for my wife. She adores it and is placed where everyone can see it. It has done everything from a decorative piece to candy bowl. Looks great and it's functional. Couldn't be happier with it.
